S1E30 - The Hmong Nightmare Deaths | The Curse of Dab Tsog & S.U.N.D.S

Welcome back to The Freaky Deaky! Today the gang tackles the Mysterious Nightmare Deaths of over 100 Hmong Refugees during the Late 70’s & 80’s.
 
During the 1970s and 1980s, many of the Southeast Asians were not able to worship properly due to the guerrilla war against the government of Laos with the United States. Hmong people believe that when they do not worship properly, do not perform religious ritual properly or forget to sacrifice, the ancestor spirits or the village spirits do not protect them, thus allowing the evil spirit to reach them. These attacks induce a nightmare that leads to sleep paralysis when the victim is conscious and experiencing pressure on the chest. It is also common to have a REM state that is out of sequence where there is a mix of brain states that are normally held separate. After the war, the United States government scattered the Hmong across the country to 53 different cities.  Once these nightmare visitations began, a shaman was recommended for psychic protection from the spirits of their sleep. However, scattered across 53 different cities, these victims had no access to any or the right shaman to protect them from this syndrome. Hmong people believed that rejecting the role of becoming a shaman, they are taken into the spirit world. In a medical journal, the author suggested that the Hmong who died were killed by their own beliefs in the spiritual world, otherwise known as Nocturnal pressing spirit attacks.

The Hat Man is a dark shadow in its entirety, without clear bodily details. For anyone familiar with the Shadow Person phenomenon, The Hatman is often referred to as their shadowy leader. Although there are no reports of violence, The Hatman is far from harmless. Hatman has been spoken of as a distinct entity and more often than not, witnesses report feeling absolute terror upon seeing him.

S1E28 - La Lechuza Bruja | The Owl Witch of Mexican Folklore & Half Woman / Half Bird Lore

Welcome back to The Freaky Deaky! Today the gang tackles the eerily spooky legend of Le Lechuza Bruja, the Owl Witch of Mexican/Hispanic folklore, as well as other examples of half woman / half bird hybrids found throughout history.
Lechuza are either shape-shifting witches or spirits in Hispanic folklore. Tales of Lechuza are quite popular in Mexico and Texas. A human-sized bird with a woman's face, Lechuza are women who have sold their souls to the devil in exchange for magical powers.
At night, they transform into monsters with a bird's body and a woman's face, similar to depictions of harpies in Greek mythology. They then fly through the night in search of prey. When a Lechuza finds her target she will perch in a location where she can't easily be seen and then will make either strange whistles or the sound of an infant crying.
Anyone who attempts to determine where the sound is coming from is at risk of becoming Lechuza's dinner. Lechuza will then swoop down and carry off the confused and horrified individual. In some versions of the story, the Lechuza is the spirit of a witch who was murdered by locals. Her spirit returns in the form of the bird-monster to get revenge. In other tales, the Lechuza is the vengeful spirit of a woman who has returned from the grave to torment the living and to seek revenge.

Britney Spears is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, and actress. She is credited with influencing the revival of teen pop during the late 1990s and early 2000s, for which she is referred to as the "Princess of Pop”.
Due to a series of highly publicized personal struggles, she was involuntarily placed in a conservatorship at the request of her father Jamie Spears. Since 2019, Spears has been involved in a legal dispute over her conservatorship.

S1E26 - Bob Lazar | Aliens, Area 51, S4 & Reverse Engineered UFO Technology

Welcome back to The Freaky Deaky! Today the gang tackles Bob Lazar and his claims of examining and reverse engineering alien technology.
Bob Lazar is an American conspiracy theorist who claims to have been hired in the late 1980s to reverse-engineer extraterrestrial technology at what he described as a secret site called "S-4". Lazar alleges that this subsidiary installation is located several kilometres south of the United States Air Force facility popularly known as Area 51.
Lazar claims he examined an alien craft that ran on an antimatter reactor powered by element 115, which at the time had not yet been synthesized. He also claims to have read US government briefing documents that described alien involvement in human affairs over the past 10,000 years.
Lazar's claims resulted in bringing added public attention to Area 51 and fueling conspiracy theories surrounding its classified activities. Lazar's story has since been analyzed and rejected by skeptics and some ufologists. Universities from which he claims to hold degrees show no record of him, and supposed former workplaces have disavowed him. In 1990, he was convicted for his involvement in a prostitution ring and again in 2006 for selling illegal chemicals.

In today's round table discussion episode, the gang tackles the effects of Social Media and the 24 hour news cycle on both individuals, as well as civilization as a whole. There are without a doubt countless benefits to social media. Whether it be connecting with friends and family keep in touch from around the globe, or helping small businesses spread the word about their brands. However, with that also comes a long list of downsides that could very well be proven to lead to upticks in depression, envy and more. As for the 24-hour news cycle, simply put, it shouldn't exist. Force feeding and manipulating stories for ratings is a surefire way to corrupt any news outlet, and unfortunately, we see more and more of this with each passing day.
